SUMMER

Longer days and colourful, sweet fruits, Summer is Pitta in Ayurveda. It is Heart time and the Fire element in Chinese Medicine.

Long days of sunlight, days spent at the beach and a feeling of expansiveness and creativity. Pitta season is bright, light and penetrating. Balance by applying the opposite gunas- cool, grounding, stabilising and dense.

Daily practices

Cultivate moderation especially during the hottest times of the day- exercise in the early morning or the evening taking care to stay cool during Pitta time between 10-2pm.

Bathe in the cool waters- waterfalls, beaches, rivers.

Wear lighter coloured clothing that are natural fibres and loose fitting.

Small naps in the afternoon during the heat of the day are supported in Ayurveda during the summer months.

Practice Abhyunga with coconut oil infused with Rose or Jasmin essential oils. Coconut oil is cooling and grounding for the summer months.
